Demo Classes

It’s time to get in the garden! Join the CDCG Garden Educator, Colie Collen, in our working Demonstration Gardens for these one-hour participatory workshops on a variety of spring gardening topics.  Classes are free for community gardeners or $5 for the general public. Register today by emailing educator@cdcg.org or calling 274-8685.

Preparing Garden Beds

Learn two easy ways to get your garden ready for planting. We’ll prepare beds in the CDCG demo gardens using both a digging and a no-dig method. Compost and fertilizing, watering, mulching and garden design will all be discussed. Bring your gloves and muscles!

When, Where, and How to Plant Seedlings

Whether you’ve grown them from seed or bought them full-grown, there are special ways to protect and nurture your young plants. We’ll talk about when to plant them, proper spacing, and what sorts of tricks help seedlings develop strong stems and happy roots.

Planting and Growing Potatoes

There are so many ways to grow potatoes, and this class will cover three of those techniques: classic trench & hill planting, container planting, and planting in straw.

Mulching—Uses and Types

CDCG always encourages our gardeners to use mulch whenever possible. Mulch keeps moisture in your soil, while also keeping weeds at bay and preventing some soil-born pests from emerging. Some types also add organic matter to the soil. In this class, we’ll talk about different kinds of mulch and how to use them.
